Seit dem Um- und Neubau im September 2009 hat er seine heutig Gestalt. Damit ist er ein Knotenpunkt im europ\u00e4ischen Hochgeschwindigkeitsnetz.\u00a0Auch im Regionalverkehr\u00a0 ist er ein bedeutender Bahnhof. F\u00fcr das Projekt des Architekten Santiago Calatrava, der bereits andere Bahnh\u00f6fe gestaltet hat, wurden 312 Millionen Euro investiert. Der neue Bahnhof besteht aus Stahl, Glas und wei\u00dfem Beton. 10.000 Tonne Stahl wurden f\u00fcr den 200 Meter langen, auf- und Abschwingenden und an eine Schanze erinnernden Bogen des Bahnhofsdachs, welches sich in der Mitte etwa 40 m \u00fcber dem Gleisbett erhebt, verbaut.
